  2. With the development of smartphone applications, a KMZ export of races would allow the importation of races directly from these applications (Navitabi, Vikazimut, ...).

  3. Allow adding additional OCAD/bitmap maps to an event. If the additional maps overlap in any way, you would be able to mark a common point between the maps so that control locations automatically relate between the maps. This would allow:

    • Different OCAD maps for 1:10000 and 1:15000 maps of the same area
    • Map exchanges that actually use a different map
    • Part of a course on a different scale.map of the same area
    • Courses that are in different area entirely

  5. When map files are updated and used for a prior version of a PP course, the controls are often shifted some amount. It would be very helpful to have a way to move all the controls (or the map file) to realign them. Several questions on the yahoo forum have mentioned this useful suggestion.

  6. The simplest addtions are direction indicators in column 8 of the CDs - Arrows for each compas direction - and control codes that allow for A-E, A-C, A etc, which already works, but only once per code. The next is to add small dots for the solutions sheet where the kites are placed including the zero (non existant kite).

  7. Create the control description at a standard size, based on the font size, but allow the block to be resized to fit the space on the map.

  8. When we are arranging trainings we usually don't have punching units and control codes on every control. But PurplePen forces us to have that and that is a little annoying, specially for the youngsters. It would be a good idea to be able to ommit or hide the control codes in the control description.

  9. A lot of clubs don't want to give their Ocad files to everybody, they only give jpg, tif, png or pdf files.
It'ld be excellent to be able to create georeferenced events with those files (for example jpg+jgw, tif+tfw, ...)
Could you create this feature that shouldn't be too difficult to implement?

  10. Currently Purple Pen allows you to customize the text associated with a particular symbol on the description sheet. However, sometimes you may wish to complete customize the text for one particular control. If implemented, this feature would allow you to change the textual description for a control to anything you wanted, completely bypassing the automatic creation of the textual description. If you change the symbolic description later, you would be prompted to update the text description also, so you don't forget

  12. The perceived shortest route for a leg often depend on how you look at the map.
I would like to be able to look at the map in the direction aligned with a certain leg of the course. To choose a challenging location for the control. Especially for sprints, I noticed that sometimes a different route choice seems obvious depending on whether you look with North on top or with me next control on top.

  14. The new support for butterflies and relay forking is great, but it would be awesome to have the option of creating course variations with phi-loops as well. These seem to be more commonly used by planners than traditional butterfly loops these days.

(Basic diagram of a phi-loop here, although note you can also include controls on the diagonal between 1,6 and 3,7: http://news.worldofo.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/philoop-300x226.jpg)

  15. Currently the OCAD export produses a normal OCAD map file for each course, which means that the cource setting task has to be finalised before the OCAD export.

The possibility of exporting a OCAD course setting project would make it possible to transfer the course setting task to another person that for whatever reason is not able to work in Purple Pen or (god forbid ;-)) strongly prefer to work in OCAD. It would also be possible to export to OCAD and do whatever task that is currently unsupported in the current Purple Pen version, and retain the course information…

  16. British Orienteering rules say "control codes that could be easily confused are not to be used on control sites that are close to each other". It would be very useful if the Event Audit report could include controls within 200m where the codes are similar. My suggestion would be that similar would be same except one digit where those digits are 1 and 7 or two of 0,6 8.

  18. An earlier request was "Splitting of control descriptons". A useful feature was subsequently added to enable the list to be dragged wider to create multiple columns. However, these are placed side by side and it it is not always possible to fit the shorter but wider block on the map without obscuring courses or other detail. The descriptions can be split using OCAD but a native solution would avoid this work-around.

  19. The purpose of this feature is to aid communication between the planner/controller and help ensure that the maps printed by a printer and the control descriptions are consistent.

A file version field will be defined.

It should be possible to include this on the maps as special text item and configure for it to be include don the control descriptions.

When saving the file if it has changed and a version number field is displayed a prompt should be offered to remind the user they may wish to update the version number.

Optionally a comment could be added with the…

  20. Allow free-form text notes to be attached to particular controls, and printed/viewed in some way. Interesting details how this should work.

For example, are notes attached to a control regardless of course, or to a control in a course, or allow either?

Allow notes attached to other things (course, leg, special item, start, finish)?
