  1. Allow free-form text notes to be attached to particular controls, and printed/viewed in some way. Interesting details how this should work.

For example, are notes attached to a control regardless of course, or to a control in a course, or allow either?

Allow notes attached to other things (course, leg, special item, start, finish)?

  2. It is hard to add multiple lines of text on the map. You currently have to add one textbox for each line of text which is:
    1. Annoying to edit since you dont know how large or long the text will be
    2. Hard to make the different lines aligned correctly.

    My suggestion is to:
    1. Make it possible to edit a textbox directly on the map
    2. Allow multiple lines of text by allowing line breaks in the edit box

  3. For courses other than sprint, length measurement is along the shortest passable route (measuring around lakes, buildings, etc.), and it is often not proper to bend the connecting line around such objects (because there is a left/right route choice around them). It would be nice to be able to click on the length and manually edit it. I guess it would make sense for it to revert if the course were edited, though.

  5. I find myself re-calculating the climb for my courses, and having to double and triple check my work. It would be really nice to be able to calculate and set the climb for each leg separately. Purple Pen could even prompt the user to re-set the climb on affected legs if a control is moved after the climb has been set.

  6. I would consider very useful to have simple distance measurement tool that allowed to measure the actual distance of the optimal route leg. I consider specially useful when drawing sprints. The workaround I do is to draw in Open Orienteering Mapper.

  8. Could Ppen read the OCAD file and determine what object was located at the point the control was placed? If the object was a point feature, the description could be automatically generated.

  9. At the moment it takes ages to mark a long forbidden route as the tool has to be re-selected from the menu for each X.

  10. The IOF export dialog currently defaults to IOF xml 2.0.3. This causes issues for novice users when the want to create iof xml files for apps such as UsynligO (which requires 3.0 format). Please consider to default to the newer version of the iof xml format (3.0) instead. Thanks!

  11. For training, it's sometimes good to create several smaller courses to be printed in the same page.

I hope my description isn't to hard to understand.
But for example if doing orienteering intervals with a common start point for all intervals. Printing all intervals in one map can show up as quite messy. If dividing the map inte several smaller maps each one containing one interval makes it easier.
If printing on one A4 page and having 6 intervals, then each interval could for example be a round map with diameter 8 cm. Control definition needs to be provided for…

  12. Copy control punch patterns from matching control codes in another events. If your club uses the same codes with the same punch patterns from event to event, this would allow you to skip having to reenter punch patterns more than once.

  13. We are using the Emit system and Etiming software for result service. It is possible to import cource data from ocad. (version 8 text format in ocad)
The file from ocad is in this format:
    ;Lang;0;5.500;0;S1;0.793;131;0.879;132;0.585;133;0.646;134;0.641;135;0.749;136;0.587;137;0.626;M1

    ;[Cource name];[Cource number];[lenght];[declenation];[Start name];[lenght to 1 control];[code 1 control];[code first conrol];[lenght to 2 control];[code 2 control] .......[name finich]

With this function it will be possible set up the cources in the Etiming software by just importing this file, and also reduce the risk of writing errors.

  14. A way to choose font and size for the text descriptions (they are small know compared to the symbols). For instence "Arial narrow" is a larger tfont size would be more readable and still not require more width.

  15. I often create courses for control putting out or collecting. An option to remove them from event audit or cross referencing. They'll need to be identified in the course tab titles in italics or with an asterisk etc.

  16. I LOVE Purple Pen, but the text boxes take a lot of fiddling.

Use Case: I want to have a standard text box on multiple courses but on different locations on the printout.
    Current Workaround:
    1. Since I can't copy and paste a text box from a previous course, I create the text box typing in the same text again.
    2. Long text does not automatically wrap, so I have to create multiple boxes and try to size them to line up (ugh).
    3. The box appears on all courses by default but I want them in different locations on…

  17. Currently it is nice that you can place the control code next to the order number. It would be nice (to save some space) to be able to control the size of the control code separately. Normally I'd like it to be bit smaller than the order number.

  18. In Norway there is an mobile app, InvisibleO https://usynligo.no/about, that is becomming popular during the pandemic. This app makes it possible to run an orienteering course without controls in the forrest, since it use GPS position from your mobile to tell when you are at the control.

To make this work the map in Purple Pen must be georeferenced, and I'm aware that OCAD or OpenOrienteeringMapper files support this. But we don't want OCAD files distributed to everyone, because we want to avoid the risk of having several copies of the map where changes are done in each file.…

  19. I like hotkeys, they make things faster. Only hotkey that I managed to find was Ctrl-A for new Control.

I would suggest at least two new hotkeys:
    - Select some element, Ctrl-C would copy it.
    - Add last added item, Ctrl-L or Ctrl-N, or something else.

I think those would make things lot easier and faster and for the implementation point of view, doesn't sound big to implement.

  20. A feature that should be very useful when planning big events is to print all courses on one map. We need to show land owner an authorities which belts that will be used so they, for example, kan see if the load on the nature is ok. All courses on one map wold give a good overview.
