  1. First of all, thank you for the great software! Would it be possible to add a check box or something to automatically create gaps where the course lines meets the control circles as it is stated in ISOM 2017-2:

    "There should be gaps
between the line and the control circle in order to increase the readability of
the underlying detail close to the control."

  2. IOF has changed the standards for colours in O-Map. Mixing of colours or "overprinting effect" are not allowed anymore, but there are "upper purple" and "lower purple". Moreover, present (June 2022) IOF standards are different for control numbers in ISOM and ISSprOM.
Purple pen should provide an option to choose the ISSprOM 2019-2 standard. Purple pen should provide a colour ordering table, where lower and upper purple can be brought in the correct position among the used colours.
Purple pen should provide an option to choose lower purple or upper purple for the various course symbols.

  3. A feature that should be very useful when planning big events is to print all courses on one map. We need to show land owner an authorities which belts that will be used so they, for example, kan see if the load on the nature is ok. All courses on one map wold give a good overview.

  4. Allow rotation of map.

Some maps are not drawn with meridians parallell to the edge of the map. I would like to be able to rotate the map to correct angle. As it is now it is not possible to make the control numbers and control descriptions parallel to meridians on these maps.

  5. For our events, we have common styling for maps. For now, we solve this by creating a pdf of the map.
But if we decide to use a different region at a later stage, we have to create new map file.
It would be great if we could add some Png/svg overlay, that can be reused between events to keep the maps in the same style and make the process of map creation simpler

  6. I would like to suggest one enhancement, if I may. It is related to graphics for courses.
Currently, objects like printing area and descriptions are associated with each course.
Other objects, such as white-out areas, images, lines, and texts are associated with an event. This creates a problem when the same map is used for events that have different map scales and paper sizes. In these cases, the graphic’s layout is different for each map scale.
I have an event to prepare that uses one map for two races. I would like to use one master map with all controls…

  7. It seems that the PDFs output via File>Output PDFs are not georeferenced. It would be great for tracking to have GeoRef PDFs. Some mobile device apps can read them without having to calibrate manually.

  9. At least in Czech Republic we have flagged course for the youngest. These courses are flagged along whole course, it would be nice to be able to do this in Purple Pen. Currently, I can do it by making separate project and use bend tool to mark the flagged path.

    1. Assign a keyboard shortcut to Item>Remove Bends to speed up the process of removing bends from a course.

    2. Create a "Remove all bends" feature to remove all bends from a course or set of courses.

    3. Allow courses with straight lines joining controls and also the same courses with lines bent round objects to exist in the same PP file.

  10. I would wish for some support to be able to create corridor orienteering with faded white out. When doing corridor exercises we are now limited to use mask out with totally blank areas. This is not very suitable for teenagers when they are introduced into corridors.
The "very expensive product" have a nice feature where corridors are automatically created based on a center line and a width property.

  12. Sometimes, for example for training purpouses, it would be nice to have an option in "course properties" to hide lines between controls in normal courses. Currently, this can be done by changing the course to score type, but then sequence numbers change (for instance, if some controls are visited more than once). Alternatively, this could be also done by allowing line width to be zero in Event | Customize Appearance.

  13. For me it would be helpful to set numerically the size and location (e.g. X,Y coordinates) of an object. Some time I need align objects, and I would like to align them with high precision.

  15. Many years ago I used a planning program called Wincacs. One place it won out over purple pen was in its display of leg and control load. By drawing all used legs and controls in an event, with different size circles and thickness of lines depending on the loading it gave a much quicker idea of which legs and controls are overloaded. Currently this is a lot more clunky in purple pen. Its not critical, but it would be a nice addition.

  16. When the background map changes in PurplePen, a prompt appears asking if the map should be reloaded.

Often the map is made up of two OCAD files, one containing the map and the other containing the format (border, northlines, title, etc.).

The formatting OCAD file uses the raw-map OCAD file as a background map.

If the raw-map OCAD files is changed, PurplePen doesn't prompt for the map to be reloaded.

The background maps of OCAD maps should be watched for changes

  18. The rectangle is nice for making borders on maps. Would be great if it had a white padding option, so we don't need to use the white masking tool. Padding should extend to infinity outside the border.

  19. It would be very useful if we can group circuits in tabs it the tool bar.
For example : One map, mutliple courses and multiple circuit.
