  1. Instead of the expensive OCAD I use the Open Orienteering Mapper (https://sourceforge.net/p/oorienteering/home/Home/) for creating maps. This is an open source project and thus free. And does the just perfectly fine.

This can export as .OCAD but using its native .OMAP or .XMAP format would be better as exporting to .OCAD can be lossy. Thus you need to manage two formats

  4. Have Purple Pen export a JPG file of the map and the XML course file necessary to display the event in the Route Gadget program. This would allow the course setter to setup Route Gadget without using OCAD.

  5. Allow a map exchange to be placed onto a map. When printing/exporting courses, a separate map for each segment of the course appears (and descriptions for that segment on the map). When printing descriptions, a unified description for the entire course is printed.

  9. Currently you have to create a score course to do this. It would save time if the all controls view could be set up to print with its own control descriptions

  14. We often split an OCAD map with a map content file and a frame file. This allows us to produce maps of large school sites with one base and have multiple extracts. It is also a useful approach for very large maps.

The reason for this approach is to only have one survey file. We have a frame file and bring in a partial map as a background file. To make this work in Purplepen we have to import the OCAD background to make one flat file.

  16. Possible improvements:

    • Optionally number score-O controls (1, 2, 3...)
    • Place points in a different column of the description (e.g., after column H)
    • Score-O without points display at all (if all controls are the same amount, or you have to go all controls)

  18. Currently, when creating custom text box and putting it somewhere on the map, you cannot afterwards just click on it and change it. Currently, if you need to do some changes in text, you basically, need to delete previous text box and create one again. Also it is quite often needed to change color of the text, which is created. So - when adding possibility to work with the text box, it is required to holistically look at this feature, so that it can be changed, edited, color changed etc. Also - it would be required to be able to…

  19. Having a single menu item to export the course data (XML) and map image (GIF) for Routegadget is very useful, thank you. But it seems that the exported map image is not georeferenced, even if the OCAD map is. Is it possible to create and export the GFW file too?
