Georeference maps, image files with world file and EPSG code.
In Norway there is an mobile app, InvisibleO https://usynligo.no/about, that is becomming popular during the pandemic. This app makes it possible to run an orienteering course without controls in the forrest, since it use GPS position from your mobile to tell when you are at the control.
To make this work the map in Purple Pen must be georeferenced, and I'm aware that OCAD or OpenOrienteeringMapper files support this. But we don't want OCAD files distributed to everyone, because we want to avoid the risk of having several copies of the map where changes are done in each file. So we have made all our maps available as image files with georeferencing as world files. If Purple Pen supports reading world files all members of the club can create georeferenced courses for InvisibleO or Livelox, and this would ease the work for people responsible for maps.

I agree this would be a very usefull additions. I have several users of my map at https://kartor.gokartor.se/ that asks about how to use the exported maps with Purple Pen to get them in the right scale. The use of world-files in setting an image as bakground map would ease this process a lot as well.
