Allow import of ,omap or .xmap files
Instead of the expensive OCAD I use the Open Orienteering Mapper (https://sourceforge.net/p/oorienteering/home/Home/) for creating maps. This is an open source project and thus free. And does the just perfectly fine.
This can export as .OCAD but using its native .OMAP or .XMAP format would be better as exporting to .OCAD can be lossy. Thus you need to manage two formats
Purple Pen 3.0 beta 1 now contains support for Open Orienteering Mapper files. Please check it out and email in your feedback.

I think a more profitable route is to improve the OOMapper export to OCAD feature to preserve the georeferencing and fix other issues.

I use OOMapper as well. Even with OCAD export it's impossible to have georeferencing setup correctly in this PurlplePen<->OOMapper hybrid. Therefore I'm unable to use 'export to GPX' of Purple Pen, which is annoying. I don't use PurplePen only for competitions, but most of the time for setting up my own training sessions. I don't setup control points on the ground, but rely on my stunt watch to tell me whether I'm at the control point. Creating GPX files out of a route automatically is essential for me.

Our club is now starting our new mappers with (the easier to use) Open Orienteering Mapper. The .omap format will gradually become our default storage format. The use of this format with PurplePen would greatly assist us.

This is a good idea, but I think this should wait until Open Orienteering Mapper is final or in close contact with the programmers of OOMapper.
