Allow text to be put onto a single course.
Allow text to be put onto a single course or all courses. Currently any text is applied globally to all maps and multiple files are required if you want separate text on each course.
3 votesThis can be done by selected the text, then selecting “Change Display Courses…” from the Item menu. From there, you can select which courses the text will be displayed on.

Manage classes
In OCAD, you can create a list of classes and then link a path to each class. It's good at big events.
For XML export, the file will also include the ClassCourseAssignment-tag: <ClassCourseAssignment>
<ClassName> D60 </ ClassName>
<CourseName> Course 3 </ CourseName>
</ ClassCourseAssignment>This is a very useful feature that would be good to include in the Purple Pen.
See attached links for pictures (sorry for Swedish in the pictures.)

allow alphabetic control codes
Instead of numbers, our club uses letters: AA-AZ, BA-BZ, etc. These control codes are on laminated cards tied into the hang string on the control flags. We can't use Purple Pen.
3 votesAlthough Purple Pen numbers controls by default, alphabetic codes are fully supported by Purple Pen. You can change a single code by clicked it in the description pane. Or, change all codes at once by selecting “Change Control Codes” from the Event menu.

Avoid moving controls shared by multiple courses by a mistake
The most significant usability problem I encounter with purple pen is that I drag a control to an alternate position forgetting it is shared by another course.
On the course view, when you move a control on one course that influences another a warning should (optionally) be offered. Maybe this should only be offered if the legs are not shared or maybe that would be confusing.
3 votesThis is now done in 2.5.0.

Allow export as EPS
Ability to export the courses as EPS. Currently, my flow is Purple Pen -> .ocd -> OCAD -> Export as EPS -> Abobe Illustrator -> PDF. It would be nice to take OCAD out of the loop completely.
3 votesVersion 2.1 allows export as PDF. I think that will work just as well as EPS for your purposes. If not, please open a new request or email me explaining why.

Allow several start (and finish) points in one course.
In some courses after a taped route you use a new start control. This is not possible in Purple Pen. At least I can't do it. This would also be useful if you are making "interval courses" for training.
3 votesYou can now use Map Exchanges in Purple Pen 2.0 to achieve this.

Allow uncropped maps for Routegadget export
Maybe just a checkbox to allow the user to select cropped or uncropped maps (ideally defaulting to unchecked).
I am always disappointed when I see cropped maps in Routegadget. I understand that this is trying to reduce file sizes, but the tests I have done show that it doesn't really make a great deal of difference for most events.
The RG2 wiki at https://github.com/Maprunner/rg2/wiki/Map-Files provides a lot more detail of the background to this.
3 votesIn 3.2.0 uses the print area for the route gadget export.

Select object behind white-out area by double-clicking mouse
Its very hard currently to do a layout, since when I put white-out area, and there are objects on it (like logos), i cannot anymore select those logos. So I need to take a white-out area, move it aside, then take logo and change or move it, and then again bring white-out area back to where it was. Not good.
Should be like this: one-click on the white-out are will select area. But DOUBLE-CLICK (or tripple) should allow selecting and working with objects which are on the white-out area.

Allow Free Text with different fonts, styles and colours
Special item Text allows adding of text to the map. It would be beneficial if you could change the Font, style and colour per item.
This would allow you to add event information, registration numbers and course specific information rather than modifying the OCAD file.2 votesYou can now add text with an arbitrary font, style, and color.

White-out area to be located behind other objects
It would be very nice if the White-Out-Area could be placed behind other objects such as text and images. Currently any such object are hidden behind the White-Out-Area. Actually, there should preferably be two different ways of masking information, one type of mask placed behind and another mask placed in front of other objects as the current one.

automatically add gaps for crossing legs
If two legs on a course cross, automatically add a gap into one of the legs where they cross.
1 voteGaps are now automatically placed into legs when they cross.

allow printer properties to be changed so that I can print a map in draft quality.
Map printing is expensive - I don't always want to print high quality maps, but there isn't an option to access printer preferences.
1 voteYou can already do this.
From the Print Courses window, click “Change Printer…”, then click “Preferences”.

The Event Audit should report pairs of controls which are run in both directions
It is generally not a good idea if one course features two controls in one direction and another course features the same pair in the reverse direction. It would be great if Event Audit could report such instances.

Predefined print area
It would be great if you could choose a print size (eg A4, A3 or a custom defined size) which then can be positioned on the part of the map you want to use.

Splitting of control descriptions
It would be very nice with an option to split the control descriptions on the map eg. control 1 to 10 at left side of the map and 11 to finich on an other free area on the map.
1 votePurple Pen 2.0 allows control descriptions in multiple columns.

Allow semi-transparent white boxes behind control numbers to provide better visibility.
Sometimes it's difficult to place the control number and keep it clearly visible. Allow the option of turning on a semi-transparent white box allowing you to place the control number on an area of the map it wouldn't normally be wise to place it on because of poor contrast.
This option should be enabled at the course level unlike the current white box option that stays on the map for all courses.1 voteEvent/Customize Course Apperance now has an option to outline control numbers in white to make them more visible.

Make it possible to show the control description without having to make a course first.
For now PP will show an empty control description. In many contries we offer just maps with controls on to the public, and people choose themselves which controls to visit and the control sequence. For this we need a map with controls without lines between the controls. The control description will just show the control numbers and no sequence number. For now it's a workaround with score-o and select the A column for the scores and then have empty scores.
1 voteIn version 2.0, you can now place a control description on the All Controls map and use that.

A dotted line drawing tool
With a similar "Uncrossable Boundary" tool behavior, but with dotted or dashed line. By example, for a route drawing.
1 voteThe Add Special Item/Line tool now allows this.
