Get length to control on course
Often, I'm asked to provide the length of a course to a radio control. For example "M21 has a radio control after 4,3 km". Also I need to have some idea of the course length between drinking controls on a long/ultra long distances. Currently, when I click on a control on a course, the lower left pane will display control locations, which courses use that control, and a textual version of the control description.
If you are viewing a course, it would also be nice if the length of the course up to that control would be displayed. G.e. "Length…

Control and Leg load report to contain section with similar courses
I am thinking about ways to quickly detect courses that are too similar to each other, to either adjust them or instruct the start-list creator to keep their start-intervals without overlap. I believe it would be useful to add a similar courses section to the load report that lists courses that share N legs, N-1 legs, N-2 legs etc..
Or how do you others check this for 40 courses ?

Make report dialog non-modal
Today it is a bit annoying that one can't navigate map or change course after generating a report. Can the report windows be non-modal?

View shortcut (F6) to show all courses using marked control or leg
I really like how selecting a control or leg shows the other courses using the same. I also like the F4 and F5 view options to quickly see other controls. I think it would be really good to have (F6 or similar) render all courses (similar to F5 but maybe a bit faded down) to see how other courses are too similar or not. This would speed up course setting for large projects.

Fix and improve RELAY options.
1 In "Create PDF | Course": the "Choose Variation..." button is grayed out. It would be great to have this option available (including an option to print "all variations" map).
2 In "Relay Team Variations", it would be nice to have more usueful assignments. Currently, the assignments are not random at all and can't be remade differently by clicking on "assign variations" button several times. The legs are too similar: BDGK, BDGL, CFHJ, CFIK... almost identical legs for all teams!

Fix bug with imported image dimensions
Tested on 2 different laptops:
When adding a special item "image", it appears vertically squeezed by a random (?) factor. The same image imported different times sometimes appears different.I only noticed this for images that are wide horizontally and narrow vertically (like a banner). For example, an image that is 3000x300, appears like 3000x220.

Corridor orienteering and faded whiteout
I would wish for some support to be able to create corridor orienteering with faded white out. When doing corridor exercises we are now limited to use mask out with totally blank areas. This is not very suitable for teenagers when they are introduced into corridors.
The "very expensive product" have a nice feature where corridors are automatically created based on a center line and a width property.5 votes -
make it possible to have two parts of the map exchange on the same map
It would be nice if you could have a map exchange for a part of the course further away and then switch back to the original map where the course continues. There's currently a work around for this involving overlapping controls and forks but the numbering isn't correct, it's hard to do and it's very confusing to both plan and run with it.

orienteering map filter for color blind people
Hello I am a student in physical activity and sports science.
In the context of my studies I have used your software.
However, during the orienteering race, some participants were color blind and did not perceive the colors;
Would it be possible or conceivable to add to this software a way to add a layer or a filter so that they can better distinguish the map.

Add option to hide lines between control circles
Sometimes, for example for training purpouses, it would be nice to have an option in "course properties" to hide lines between controls in normal courses. Currently, this can be done by changing the course to score type, but then sequence numbers change (for instance, if some controls are visited more than once). Alternatively, this could be also done by allowing line width to be zero in Event | Customize Appearance.

Place text always on top of other objects
If I draw a box (using a thick line, for example as a background for my text), sometimes, but not always, the box covers the text, making it invisible and also impossible to select without moving the box first.

Add warning when trying to export IOF XML when there's no finish
I spent a while figuring out why I only got contols but no courses in my IOF XML export. Turns out it was because I had not set a FINISH (score courses with start and finish at the same point, so I forgot to also place finish on top of start).

JPEG image export should have a compression quality setting
The title says it.

The color space setting of the image export dialog seems to have no effect
The created JPEG image will be in sRGB even though I choose CMYK.
You can check the file with Imagemagick "identify". (magick identify file.jpg)

The image export function miscalculates the scale
The image export function should relate the DPI value to the chosen scale of the course, not to the scale of the background map.
For example, if I have a map in the scale 1:15000, and two full page courses in the scales 1:10000 and 1:7500, the pixel width and height of the result images should be identical. Currently the 1:10000 course image will have more pixels in it.

Improved gap settings for control lines
First of all, thank you for the great software! Would it be possible to add a check box or something to automatically create gaps where the course lines meets the control circles as it is stated in ISOM 2017-2:
"There should be gaps
between the line and the control circle in order to increase the readability of

Update purple cross-hatching for Out of Bounds (forbidden area) to comply with ISOM 2017-2
The change to a lighter hatching has now been made in both ISSprOM and ISOM (ISOM 2017-2, published Sep 2022). The 16 Sep 2022 update to Purple Pen (3.4.1) implemented the change for maps with ISSprOM 2019 selected, but selecting ISOM 2017 from Event > IOF Standards gives the old version.

Create a browser-based version of PPen
How about a browser-enabled version of Purple Pen that brings the basic functionality to a browser - that way I can do my maps anywhere, anytime.
